Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) is the nation’s oldest and largest LGBTQ youth services organization. For over 40 years, HMI has been serving more than 2,000 at-risk young people – primarily of color between the ages of 13 and 24 – from more than 300 zip codes in New York and throughout the tri-state area annually. Their outreach efforts have enabled them to extend their programming to thousands of more underserved youth through advocacy, training and capacity building work around the world.
In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, HMI has ensured continuity of services and care for its young people by providing virtual programs, counseling and homeless outreach services. Their young people have been equipped with mobile tablets for remotely accessing programs, services, and their online resource guide for food, shelter, medical services and more.
